Shaw Women’s Track sets new record at Fred Hard Invitational

RICHMOND, Va.  – The Shaw University women’s outdoor track and field team set a new program record in the 4×400 meter relays, with a time of 3.51.05 to take first place amongst NCAA Division II institutions at the 2019 Fred Hardy Invitational on the campus of the University of Richmond Saturday afternoon.

The previous record in the 4x400m relay was set in 2018 with a time of 3.51.41 but a team of senior La’Cherie Clarke (Raleigh, NC), sophomore Damoni Neal (Newport News, VA), senior Tashay Roberts (Bloomfield, CT) and junior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) have now raised the bar with Saturday’s performance.

OTHER NOTABLE HIGHLIGHTS (Amongst NCAA DII Schools)

·         Junior Yanika McCrea (Kingston, Jamaica) ran a time of 12.78 in the 100m dash to finish seventh overall.

·         Shaw had three runners place top-5 in the 200m dash led Neal who placed third in the 200m dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 25.94. Wint followed Neal, coming in at 25.96 while McCrea placed fifth in the event (26.03).

·         Roberts was fifth in the 400m dash (58.97).

·         Neal earned a fourth place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.68 while senior Kyla Sanders (Hampton, VA) tabbed sixth overall at 1:07.11.

·         Senior Laquel Harris (Nassau, Bahamas) claimed sixth place in the shot put with a throwing mark of 11.99m.

The Lady Bears will return to action on Apr. 5-6 at the Johnson C. Smith University Invite in Charlotte, N.C.
